Become a Research Catalyst

Learn how to design and facilitate innovative research meetings that produce novel and exciting outcomes.

Learning to design and facilitate activities that increase the chances of novel, and exciting research is an essential skill for anyone involved in research. The Academy is a place where you can learn these skills.

Our learning road map is designed to take you from knowing nothing about the science of creativity, all the way through to being able to design and facilitate significant innovation workshops. The main stops on the road map are outlined below. We think of this as your route to becoming a research catalyst.

The Essentials

Start here if you are new to the field. The 11-week course introduces the key concepts in the science of deliberate creativity, and walks you through a collection of activities that will strengthen your core creative skills.

creative process

Developed in the early 1950’s, Creative Problem Solving (CPS) is a widely used approach to harnessing a team’s creativity. This course is a deep dive into the model, tools, and facilitation techniques required for you to design, and lead small-scale academic innovation workshops. In order to participate in the course, you must have a simple workshop that you are planning to lead. The course will be run on a cohort model, with a series of design workshops.

designing research innovation workshops

This course is structured as a co-design / coaching relationship. You will work with a KI facilitator to design all aspects of a significant innovation workshop. You will then run the workshop, with assistance from the KI team where necessary, and wrap up with a full debrief.
